June 1st – Jack Phillips is the Christian baker in CO who refused to bake a cake for a gay wedding. Although several other bakeries were nearby, on Friday the Colorado Civil Rights Commission ruled that Phillips was in violation of the state’s Anti-Discrimination Act. Quite ironic considering the gay couple had to get married in MA since CO has not legalized same-sex marriage. Attorney Amanda Goad..., ACLU LGBT Project: “Religious freedom is undoubtedly an important American value, but so is the right to be treated equally under the law free from discrimination.” Some day Ms. Goad a defendant in a similar case will not be named Jack Phillips, but perhaps be named Ahmad Mohammad. We look forward to your response and that of the Commission on that day. Phillips after the ruling: "I will stand by my convictions until somebody shuts me down." Well Jack’s convictions have given him a ton of new business, and these days Phillips doesn’t bake, nor need to bake, wedding cakes. Well done Mr. Phillips. And well done all of his new customers!
