Going Postal? USPS Joins Other Non-Military Government Agencies in Soliciting for Ammunition 



Joining the special forces ranks of the Social Security Administration, as well as the anti-terrorism task force within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the United States Postal Service has put out national contract bidding requests for companies capable of supplying the Post Office with a large amount and variety of ammunition.
Well, maybe they've just got extra money to throw around? Hardly. According the Post Office's own website, USPS reached its statutory debt ceiling of $15 billion at the end of fiscal year 2013, and remains up against that wall, having lost $5 billion last year. Currently, liabilities exceed assets by a whopping $40 billion.
      Maybe the USPS needs to militarize its investigative office, the Postal Inspection Service? Hard-nosed journalist that I am, I googled a few times looking for the last shooting incident involving the PIS. I couldn't find a single incident. I did come close, though. In May of 2010, apparently, a sergeant with the PIS almost fired on a customer at a post office who was acting unusual and reached for his wallet.

Interestingly, though, my investigations turned up some surprising information. It seems that Letter Carriers with the Postal Service are shot and killed while out on their routes often enough that I'm tempted to use the word "routinely." Then, the PIS shows up and puts out notices on the Internet featuring a cash reward for information leading to the capture of the killer.
So maybe the USPS is going to arm their carriers? I think that'll happen sometime after public school teachers are allowed to arm themselves; which will happen after this administration admits that Islam is an inherently evil religion; which will happen after the President admits that he's a blatant failure. There's a time line to these things.
Maybe it's because I am a novelist, but I see a plot here. It's hard to escape the notion that federal agencies can only have two reasons for buying up guns and ammo.
           1. Domestic agencies are making these purchases as proxies for groups like the HSA and NSA, which plan to use these domestically, in a martial law scenario. Or,
2. They are hoping to dry up supply of these things in order to keep them out of private hands. And, you can see how accomplishing this purpose would also aid  in #1 above.
Or is there a sweet little lie they could tell that would make these ideas go away?
