DID YOU KNOW THAT?

January 1, 1842 - William Lloyd Garrison published the first issue of the weekly abolitionist newspaper “The Liberator” in Boston, Massachusetts. Although its circulation was only about 3,000, the newspaper gained nationwide notoriety for i...ts uncompromising advocacy of “immediate and complete emancipation of all slaves” in the United States. Many Southern states offered rewards to those who identified distributors of the paper. The paper was published continuously until its final issue on January 1, 1866.
