Let's take a look at Illinois, a wonderful state with virtually zero Republicans. Some interesting data on the --

--George Ryan(D) is no longer Governor, he is in prison.
--He was replaced by Rob Blagojevich(D) who is also in prison.
--Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. resigned. H...e and his wife both are in prison also.
--State of Illinois pension fund at $78 billion in debt is the worst in country.
--In an effort to tax itself into prosperity, two years ago the state legislature (basically Democrats) passed a law to DOUBLE ALL INCOME TAXES. All. Personal and corporate. Resulting in the (predictable) exodus of employers.
:: Cook County (Chicago) ::
--Sales tax 10.25% highest in country.
:: Chicago ::
-Chicago pays the highest wages to teachers than anywhere else in the U.S. averaging $110,000/year. Their pensions average 80-90% of their income. ...for life
--Body count: In the last six months, 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago. 221 killed in Iraq.
--Chicago has the strictest gun-control laws in the USA
--Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country, with many inner-city schools having drop-out rate in access of 50%
This is the political culture that President Obama comes from in Illinois. And he is going to 'fix' Washington politics for us? Here's the Chicago chain of political command:

Senator: Dick Durbin
House Representative: Jesse Jackson Jr.
Governor: Pat Quinn
House leader: Mike Madigan
Atty. Gen.: Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike, Speaker of the Illinois House & Chairman of the State Democrat Party, needless to say, a multi-millionaire - like all of them)
Mayor: Rahm Emanuel
The leadership in Illinois - all Democrats.
The leadership in Cook County - all Democrats.
The leadership in Chicago - all Democrats. (thank you for the combat zone that is Chicago.)
Of course, they're all blaming each other. Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any.
As long as Democrats keep providing entitlements to the population of Chicago, nothing is going to change, EXCEPT, the entire state will go bankrupt before the country does. Chicago is Detroit in-waiting and because of its size relative to a state of mostly rural, smaller towns and cities -- will take the entire state down with it.
"Anybody who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him better take a closer look at the American Indian."
