The American Left and Pol Pot

This is a true story:

I remember the Pol Pot takeover in Cambodia. I also remember that, contrary to what you hear and read, the Leftist Democrats (Socialists) of the time, in America, were ecstatic that the Communists were about to take Cambodia. In the media, and in Congress. In High Schools and on college campuses, every leftist said that a Khmer Rouge victory would bring peace and equality to Cambodia.

“Give peace a chance”

Now , we could all see what a true Socialist government could do.

Well,

That is exactly what we saw !!!

 2.2 Million murdered.

Norodom Sihanouk ruled over Cambodia from 9 November 1953, until 18 March 1970. General Lon Nol and the National Assembly deposed him, in a coup, and Lon Nol, took control of Cambodia.

It was at this point that Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge, assisted by China and North Vietnam, initiated a guerrilla civil war, in Cambodia, that would last for five years.

In November 1970, President Nixon asked the U.S. Congress to provide the Cambodian government of Lon Nol with $155 million in aid, of which $85 million would be earmarked for military assistance to help prevent the Khmer Rouge from taking power.

The American leftists, however, were adamantly against this proposal. As always, with these people, the Communists and Socialists were the peaceful ones. America? Well, we were the aggressive , untrustworthy killers.

Most American leftists openly supported a Communist takeover in Southeast Asia ,

 like actress Jane Fonda.

Jane Fonda and her husband Tom Hayden, publicly and unapologetically were outright enemies of America and fanatically supported the Communists.

Here’s an Example:

On November 21, 1970, Fonda told a large University of Michigan audience, "If you understood what Communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would some day become Communist."

 At Duke University, she stated,

"I, a Socialist, think that we should strive toward a Socialist society, all the way to Communism."

(don’t listen to the modern day nonsense that Socialism has nothing to do with Communism. All Communists say they're Socialists!)

Fonda’s husband, Tom Hayden, in the early 1970s organized an "Indo-China Peace Campaign" (IPC) and lobbied Congress to cut off American aid to the regimes in Cambodia and South Vietnam.

 Assisted by Democrats in Congress:

( Want some Names? Here ya go ! )

Ron Dellums, Bella Abzug, Robert Drinan, Elizabeth Holtzman, Pat Schroeder, and David Bonior.

The IPC worked tirelessly to help the North Vietnamese Communists and the Khmer Rouge win the war. Hayden and Fonda even took a camera crew to Hanoi, to help persuade viewers that the peaceful Socialists were going to create the ideal new society based on justice and equality, if the war hungry Americans would just get out !

 (Americas fault, sound familiar?)

Hoping that an agreement would help bring peace to both South Vietnam and Cambodia plus help quell the anti-war uproar caused by the leftists and Democrats in America, Nixon, signed a truce in 1973 and withdrew all American forces.

 North Vietnam had no intention of observing that truce;

 neither did Pol Pot.

After “Watergate”, the midterm elections, resulted in huge Republicans losses. Now, with a new sense of power, Democrats were poised and ready give Cambodia and Vietnam to the Socialists/Communists and get rid of the “Arrogant” power hungry Americans.

Our new President, Gerald Ford, warned of “horror and tragedy” if Cambodia was abandoned to the Khmer Rouge. He pleaded with Congress to supply Lon Nol's army with the equipment it needed to defend itself.

 But,

Representative Christopher Dodd of Connecticut said:

“The greatest gift our country can give to the Cambodian people is peace, not guns. And the best way to accomplish that goal is by ending military aid now.”

The first act of the new Democrat Congress was to cut off the funding in January 1975.

Republicans again warned that a Pol Pot victory in Cambodia would inevitably result in a "bloodbath” !

But anti-war Democrats like John Kerry and Anthony Lake accused them of trying to stir up

 "anti-Communist hysteria."

Senator George McGovern said :

“….the kind of government which would succeed Lon Nol's forces would most likely be a government . . . run by some of the best-educated, most able intellectuals in Cambodia.”

(How utterly stupid are these people ?!?!)

(Maybe they just don’t care !!)

The New York Times, the celebrated Sydney Schanberg, didn’t believe predictions of mass executions by the Khmer Rouge and said:

“it is difficult to imagine how their lives could be anything but better with the Americans gone..''

( There it is again, Americas fault, sounds just like the leftist Democrats today !!)

On the op-ed page, Anthony Lewis was calling

“the whole bloodbath debate unreal.”

It was all a made up, right wing lie !

The American leftists (Socialists) viewed Pol Pot as a liberator of the Cambodian people. He promised non-violence and equality for all.

 Peace at last !

Lovely, peaceful, utopian Socialism was coming.

“Imagine all the people, living life in peace”

The Socialist left succeeded.

The Democrats had won and were about to:

“get their man” in Cambodia.

The Cambodian people were about to pay the price for this disregard of history.

In March 1975 ,Anthony Lake called for:

"an immediate, peaceful turning over of power" to the Khmer Rouge.

He also said, that the Khmer Rouge was not a totalitarian force, but just a coalition of: "many Khmer nationalists, Communist and non-Communist," whose only ambition was to liberate and free the Cambodian people.”

( Kinda sounds like what they said about the “Arab Spring”)

(What do the Socialist Democrats think of Anthony Lake ? Well, President Jimmy Carter appointed him to be the State Department’s Policy Planning Director, and years later, President Bill Clinton named him to be his National Security Advisor. And

John Kerry ? He’s our Secretary of State !!)

I can’t make this up !

The U.S. funding was cut !

South Vietnam and Cambodia were quickly overrun by the Communists. The South Vietnamese capital of Saigon surrendered on April 30, 1975 and was immediately renamed Ho Chi Minh City. The Communists proceeded to execute tens of thousands of Vietnamese while more than a million fled the country.

(More on that at a later time)

Lon Nol’s government in Cambodia fell and on April 17, 1975,

The Khmer Rouge forces took control of Phnom Penh.

Under the banner of “peaceful” Socialism and Communism .

 Again !

Pol Pot designated the year 1975 as year "Zero,"

Hell on earth had arrived in Cambodia.

Supported and aided by the leftists Socialist Democrats here in the United States.

It makes me sick to my stomach to realize that these people , with the same arguments, are being supported by millions today here in The United States. Spewing the same garbage that has been spewed in the past and has cost tens of millions of lives.

A bunch of Socialists abound throughout our nation, in all parts of out education system.

They are in our congress and in the White House

Telling their lies and distorting history.

The “peaceful Socialist left” in America with their amazing record of accomplishment are now trying to convince us that it would be different this time.

That “spreading the wealth around” is equality.

That taxing the “evil” business owner is fairness.

 They want to create:

an “ideal new society based on justice and equality.”

Here we go again !

“Know the History
