Iowa Daycare Worker Kills 3-Year Old Girl For "Not Removing Her Coat"

It is impossible to imagine a child going to daycare and suffering fatal brain trauma from an act of aggression by a caretaker. However, that is exactly what happened to adorable 3-year-old Autumn Elgersma. The toddler was brutally thrown to the ground by Iowa daycare worker Rochelle Sapp when she wouldn't take off her coat. Sapp originally lied to the police and claimed Elgersma fell down the stairs, before admitting she had thrust her down and fractured her fragile skull.

America is fast becoming the land of the lawless. And women are becoming as violent and cold as their male counterparts. Rochelle Sapp, an Iowa Daycare worker, is one such woman who proves that sometimes the most dangerous people are the ones who are entrusted with the most. Responsible for watching children, she would most likely be seen as someone who was trustworthy and caring, but she's a cold-blooded murderer.

Little Autumn Elgersma died this past Thursday from injuries suffered at the hands of 33-year-old Sapp. The happy, healthy 3-year-old was in a coma for two days before succumbing to a fatal skull fracture. Sapp had thrown the girl to the ground in a fit of rage, and the brain injury that resulted from the incident could not be repaired by medical professionals. First, Sapp lied to the little girl's mother about what happened.

Shortly after 9:00am on Tuesday, October 29, a criminal affidavit states Sapp called Jennifer Elgersma and told her Autumn had fallen down the stairs.
The mother took Autumn from the home and brought her to the Orange City hospital where she was diagnosed with a head injury.
The girl was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital where doctors discovered the child suffered a fractured skull and brain trauma.

Rochelle Sapp, 33, had an in home day care in Orange City, Iowa. After first telling Elgersma's mother that Autumn fell down the stairs, she recanted the story. Sapp had thrown Autumn to the floor for "not taking off her coat." What started off as a case of child endangerment will result in murder charges for Sapp. The idea of her getting off with anything less than a second degree murder charge would be a serious miscarriage of justice. In this case, Sapp deserves no mercy.

How could someone murder a child for not taking off her jacket? It is impossible to imagine someone being so brutal and heartless, but in today's society, when people murder out of boredom, it is not shocking at all. In a desensitized society, it's a daily occurrence. One becomes numb to such headlines, to such random and senseless violence.

Autumn Elgersma's parents are forced to bury their 3-year-old daughter before she had a chance to live, and under the most horrific of circumstances

The heartbroken parents issued a statement, thanking supporters for their prayers.
"Autumn was a joy in our lives and we are blessed to have called her ours,” Philip and Jennifer Elgersma said. “We take comfort in the fact that she is now with her savior, Jesus Christ. We ask for your continued thoughts and prayers for our family.”

This is the only comfort that can be drawn from such horrible circumstances, that this little girl is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She will not have to feel anymore pain, and her body is made whole. However, for those still living, the shocking crime will never fade from their minds.

Little children are not supposed to be preyed upon by adults. They should never have to suffer through a rape, beating, or murder. But they do. For all who say that American culture isn't more violent today than it was years ago, look deeper at the reasons people kill. Why did Rochelle Sapp murder Autumn Elgersma? Was it really because she didn't "take off her coat?" This justified slamming her head into the floor and killing her?

This reasoning is proof that the hearts have grown cold, and that death evokes no revolting reaction.
